Punk rock band TEA BREAK is the winner to present Serbia at the world finals of Global Battle Of The Bands (GBOB) Challenge – the world’s biggest live music competition! They competed with 42 Serbian bands in 6 days and on 3rd October won the prestigious privilege to go to London in December and “battle” other countries’ finalists.

The GBOB Challenge is organized in 35 countries where bands “are fighting” for the prize of $100,000 and an album with world tour promotion. Bulgaria is not part of that list, but nevertheless we had a similar series of events under the name ”Jack Daniel’s Battle Of The Band” this year, needless to say inspired by GBOB.

TEA BREAK took part in the triple alternative CD Credit To The Nation”, published by Club Stroeja in February this year and were guests at the sixth and biggest  promotional concert of the compilation. On 18th of May in Sofia they shared the stage at Party Center 4th KM with the Bulgarian bands La Muchedumbre, Crowfish, Wickeda and Artery and the USA band Jaya The Cat, last two based in the Netherlands. With their melodic songs and strong stage presence they greatly contributed to the atmosphere of the gig and were warmly accepted by the more than 700 people at the show.

Here is a  mini interview the band’s singer, Igor Crnatovic,  gave for Stroeja.com few days after the competition:

Hi! How are you doing lately?

RE: We are very occupied with our stuff, planning new album recording, fine tuning our songs, playing in Serbia very frequently, trying to find A record label (seems to be impossible job in Serbia so far)…

The big news around you is you recently won the Global Battle Of The Bands National Finals! Congratulations! Tell us more about the competition itself, how did you enter, how it was voted, what did you perform?

RE: THANK YOU! We found out about the competition from our friends from the band Roadhill and we gave it a chance. The competition consisted in two parts, qualifications and finals. Qualifications took part in Belgrade club “Danguba” and lasted five days, near 42 bands! Each band was to perform 8 minutes – two songs. We played on 8th September and won the voice of jury which brought us to the great finals! And finally, SKC, big hall, 3rd October, 15 bands competing for a trip to London and chance to win 100.000$ and world promotion and tour. We can’t say it was a routine job, but we kinda felt that we could win this show and prove our effort through these 7 years… and now we have our tickets, fingers crossed… hope.

Are you prepared for the World Finals in London? How do you plan your act there?

RE: I guess it won’t be an easy job at all, there will be 36 bands from all over the world, perfectly prepared bla, bla… BUT… we have great songs, one of the songs that we’ll play is TROUBLEMAKER and we’ll do our best to break down London Skala (venue for the final show)!!!

What else happened with you since we last talk here in Sofia in May? How was the summer for Tea Break?

RE: The summer was kinda relaxing, but we had a lot of gigs, which is pretty unusual for summer here. We played EXIT Festival in July, couple of gigs and festivals in Serbia, we also supported Skate Park opening in Belgrade at the end of September. “Burn This Town” video had its broadcasting on MTV Adria…More to come for sure…

Are you working on something new now? What can we expect from you in future?

RE: New album, like I said, we almost finished all the songs but we are looking for a suitable studio to record this new stuff… If something positive happens in London then I guess, things won’t be the same anymore.
